The Project included the construction of a 140,000-square-foot, Green Globe Certified food distribution center in the Pullman neighborhood on the southside of Chicago. The new facility is a hub for the Whole Foods distribution channels, allowing fresh food distribution to flow seamlessly to over 70 locations throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ontario, Canada. Located in the Pullman Business Park, an area long challenged by high unemployment, low resident incomes, and high poverty and crime rates, the Project supports 150 new full-time quality jobs for the community and continues to catalyze investment within the Park.

Community Alignment

Development of the Project had the full commitment of the community, “There is a renaissance happening in Pullman and this Whole Foods center will only make it stronger,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Alderman Anthony Beale echoed these remarks by saying, “With this project, the Pullman/Roseland area is reclaiming its history as a thriving hub for manufacturing and innovation.” The Pullman Business Park has already attracted more than $125 million in investment to the neighborhood, and the Whole Foods Center is viewed within the community as the icon of this economic rejuvenation.
